27th Academy Awards
March 30, 1955
Marlon Brando receives his Best Actor Academy Award for his role as Terry Malloy in On the Waterfront, from Bette Davis.
On the Waterfront was his 6th movie (The Men, A Streetcar named Desire, Viva Zapata!, Julius Caesar, The Wild One, On the Waterfront) and not only his (already) 4th Best Actor nomination, but his 4th consecutive nomination. He had been nominated each year since 1952 (for Streetcar, Zapata and Caesar).
He would get another 3 nominations: in 1958 for Sayonara, in 1973 for The Godfather (award that he would end up winning and famously declining) and in 1974 for Last Tango in Paris. He would finally get one last nomination in 1990 for Best Supporting Actor in A Dry White Season.
Still can’t understand how he ended up NOT winning for Streetcar and Last Tango… #theacademyfuckedup
